RANDOM SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants who meet the Magnet eligibility requirements participate in the M-DCPS Magnet random selection process.
A third-party computer system is used to conduct the random selection process for Magnet programs. The system considers the specific eligibility criteria for each program, as well as applicable factors such as sibling pairings and other school- or district-specific selection criteria.
The system also generates waiting lists for each Magnet program.
MAGNET RESULTS – MARCH 15
On March 15, parents/legal guardians will receive an email with their child’s Magnet placement results.
The Magnet Application System will indicate whether the student has been Accepted, Wait-Listed, or Not Accepted.
IF ACCEPTED
Congratulations!
If your child receives an offer to Herbert A. Ammons Middle School:
- Log back into the Magnet Application System.
- Confirm acceptance of the Herbert A. Ammons Middle School offer.
- Accept the offer by the deadline displayed in the Magnet Application System.
- After accepting the Magnet offer, follow the instructions provided by Herbert A. Ammons Middle School to complete the registration/enrollment process.
Parents/legal guardians generally have two weeks after March 15 to accept an offered Magnet seat.
If the offer is not accepted by the deadline, the seat will be forfeited and offered to the next student on the waiting list.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ACCEPTING AN OFFER
Once a school/program is selected and accepted:
- All other current Magnet offers of acceptance to different schools will be declined.
- The student will remain on the waiting list for any schools where the student is currently wait-listed.
- If the student’s status at another school later changes from Wait-Listed to Accepted, the parent/legal guardian may change the student’s acceptance to the preferred program.
IF WAIT-LISTED
Being wait-listed does not mean that your child has been denied admission to Ammons.
Students on the random selection waiting list will continue to be considered as seats become available.
- Students may receive an offer as seats become available.
- If your child’s status changes from Wait-Listed to Accepted, you may accept the new offer.
- If you previously accepted another Magnet program, you may change your acceptance to the newly offered program.
- School waiting lists may continue to change until the beginning of the following school year.
Families should continue to monitor their email and the Magnet Application System for updates.
IF NOT ACCEPTED
A Not Accepted status means that the student did not meet the entrance requirements or other applicable program requirements.
Questions or appeals regarding a Not Accepted determination should be directed to the individual school.
ACCEPTING YOUR AMMONS MAGNET SEAT
Receiving an acceptance offer is exciting, but there are two important steps that families must complete.
STEP 1 – ACCEPT YOUR MAGNET OFFER
